Opportunities for A.B.V.M. Music Students!

Sing at Thursday 8:15 A.M. Masses:

Volunteer Students are scheduled to sing once every month for Sunday Services.

    Includes:

Group and solo singing in the microphone.

         Includes some percussion instruments.

        Playing of recorders (flute-like instruments).

Guitar Students play along with our guitar player "Lois Holowinski". She also teaches guitar lessons.

Students act out "The Stations of the Cross" using light shadows and sing solos as the

               "Stations" are being presented.

Students also take part in reading the liturgy.

Christmas Concert:

Students are given a different theme every year in which they become familiar with different things about the "Birth of Jesus".  Each class takes a part of that theme to sing about.  Each class wears costumes to enhance their part of the program!      Students each get one part in which they are responsible for doing.  It may be a solo, dance, or talking part.

Spring Concert:

Students take part in learning different themes as they prepare for the concert.  In 2005, the students did a unit on "America".  This theme covered styles in music and the history of "America".  In 2006, we will continue our study by learning about styles of music from the "decades" (40's, 50's, 60's, etc).  They will cover styles of clothing and history that goes along with the styles of Music.  The concert is a learning experience as well as a great chance to perform.

The music program covers many different skills in melody, rhythm, harmony, tone (instruments), style, expression, & ties to science and history.  The children use a lot of instruments and props to make class quite exciting.  (like boom-whackers, precorders, drums, etc.) The students strive hard to sing in tune.

Spring Musical at ABVM 2009 - Cruisin' for Christ

Students engaged in a school-wide learning session of the sea, sailors, and pirates by music teacher - Cindy Ludtke. A huge "Clipper ship" was made by the Art teacher - Joan Ladowski. The Preschool started out the program singing about Whales. The Kindergarten continued on with songs about "Jesus" as a fisherman. Old favorites like: Michael, Row the Boat Ashore, Fishers of Men, and the story of Jonah and the Whale.
Seven Girls from the first grade tap-danced to the old familiar "Good Ship Lollipop". They all continued with a square-dance to the "Sailor's Hornpipe". The boys then took over with "Popeye" and "The Three Little Fishes". The ladies in second grade sang songs and danced as mermaids and wore the most beautiful costumes ABVM aide: Judy Hohlmann and her Daughter-Kim. The boys did a little surfing: Surfin' the Net and Surfin' USA.
There were Third grade Pirates "Who didn't do Anything" as the popular Vege-tales tune expressed. Even Captain Hook showed up! The students were fascinated with the current new's releases about modern day pirates. Tales from the sea were sang by grade four including the Beatle's Yellow Submarine and the Tale of the Edmund Fitzgerald. The Grade Five ?Sailors? then did a mop routine of "Swabbin' the Deck". They told their tales by singing "Sea Shanties" . The show ended with everyone on stage singing two spirituals: Oh, Sinner Man and There's no Hidin' Place Down There!!!
